On this one, I mis-quoted. The Saudi Arabian arms deal was actually $110 billion, more than I can fathom. And, every one of those dollars will go to the U.S. War industry. Our president was the ad-man for this industry. How much time will he spend promoting the U.S. Peace industry?

We seem to have lost the feeling of being a united nation. I plan to send a postcard each day to our new President sharing what drives me through my days, what I want for this country, and what I want our nation to stand for. You are free to comment. I hope you will comment with generosity and civility. Please respect the intent of this effort. Thank you, Dianne

A lesson...
Okay, I know this wasn't very, ...well, civil, but I couldn't resist. Consider it lesson about about how to monitor what comes out of our mouths.

A poor trade-off...
Militarism and a wall, that seems to be the sum total of your presidential agenda. And, though you promised that Americans would not pay for the wall, it is the people who will lose their health coverage and safety nets that will put that money into the pockets of the wealthy. It is a poor trade-off for the American people. We will stand up to you at every step of the way.

Teach your children...
Knowing what is most important comes from inside of us. If the only thing we value is what earns us money or power, we are missing the very things that make life worth living. Gratitude for the Earth and the beings that live on her cannot be bought or sold. It should be taught to us as young children, but we can learn it for ourselves as well... if we do not live for money or power alone.

To all of you who "like" my postcards, or share them with your friends, or share your comments with me, thank you. I do this for you and I do it for me. By sustaining each other, we will change the world.

Citizens United, what does that mean?
Since the dawn of our republic, money has swayed our elections. And, since the Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United (which it is anything but), special interest money has bought more and more of our candidates. One thing that would put our government back into the hands of the people would be to repeal Citizens United. Isn't that an interesting sentence?

Case study of violence...
Since 1946, when Israel was created for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust, there has been perpetual war. It is a classic case study of how violence begets more violence. Before 1946, Palestinians and Jews had lived together as neighbors for centuries. Once Israel was established, the Palestinian homes and lands were taken by force and Palestinians retaliated. There is no end to the violence in sight. It could have been a very different story.

Independent investigation...
Having a Special Prosecutor clear the air will be good for our country. With the months of alternate facts, innuendo, rumor, and smoke screens, we deserve to have the air cleared with an independent investigation.

There have been other firings, but the latest firing of James Comey, the Director of the FBI, comes on the heels of accusations of wrong doing against our president and his administration. The firing of the investigator only makes the accusations more plausible.

An environmental failure...
Right on the heels of yesterday's success, I read that 25 environmental rules have been rolled back by the Trump administration. There is no secret that the rollbacks are designed to make oil, gas, food, more profitable. Unfortunately, we either pay now or we will pay later. Judge for yourself.

Who would have guessed? This is really good news. I wish it applied to all oil and gas wells, but at least the Senate came closer than I would have expected.

Roger Stone's dirty tricks...
In my opinion, Roger Stone should not be allowed anywhere near our elections. He loves that he is associated with "dirty tricks" and doesn't mind that everyone knows about his nefarious, back-room dealings. He has been around for way too long without any consequences.

What a wonderful world!
Our local Community Choir is singing these lovely lyrics and music by Hal David and Burt Bacharach. As I sing my soprano part, I can still hear the joyous voice of Louis Armstrong extolling the beauty of our wonderful world. If nothing else will move you work to save our planet, listen again to these words. We must work together to make a difference in every corner of the Earth. I will do my part... and, you?

The Paris Agreement, part 2
In order for climate change to have as little impact as possible, we all need to act together. If the U.S., one of the biggest polluters, steps out of the Paris Agreement, it could very well doom the efforts of the rest of the world.
This may be the tipping point of the Earth. Get on board if you aren't already.

The Paris Agreement is a chance to build relationships around the globe while working together for the betterment of humanity. What would drive someone to resist joining this incredible accord? I won't even speculate why anyone would be against protecting our planet.

Subtrefuge...
This firing is no less than an act of subterfuge. By definition, "the use of tricks especially to hide, avoid, or get something; deception by artifice or stratagem in order to conceal, escape, or evade." --Meriam-Webster
I am not fond of James Comey, though he is highly thought of by his staff. But his firing is, at the least, a warning to all members of the government from our President, "Do it my way, or else." At worst, it is a strong suggestion of things our President does not want known.

We have a place at the table!
It is 2017, and men in black suits still do not "get" that women have a place at the table. Not because they are allowed or given an invitation to be there, but because we belong there. What is so hard about this concept?

Let's do it!
If we ever reach the point of thinking that we have no power to make a difference, we are doomed.
We must, each of us, commit to making our one square yard a better place. My one square yard makes a difference and yours makes a difference. Together we are two. We have the power to join together in a movement that cannot, nor will not, be stopped. Let's do it!

Hope...
Hope comes in many forms. The election of Emmanuel Macron as the new French president gives me hope. Perhaps, American voters will awaken and show up in record numbers to vote for the Earth we will pass on to our grandchildren, instead of their own pockets and dogmas.

The value of our word...
Our word is our greatest asset. It only takes a time or two of veering from the truth to make our word unreliable. Once it is gone, it is very difficult to earn back. (Yes, I just spotted the two typos. Arg!)

Walk softly....
Our Beautiful Planet is at risk because we have not walked softly on our precious Earth.
The invasive weeds in my yard that I work so hard to remove are a constant reminder that humans have become the worst invasive species on the planet. In a bit over 100 years we have damaged our home while creating an opulent lifestyle that no one wants to give up.
Our children and grandchildren will pay dearly for our selfishness.

The peace incentive....
Since much of our military has become privatized and for profit, spending has gone through the roof. If our goal it to make peace, a lot of people are going to lose subsidies for their own personal wealth.
The M.O.A.B, Mother of All Benevolence, makes so much sense to me. But, there is no incentive for peace.

This is a promise!
Let's see how this works...
Congress gets to vote to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. They get to vote to add exclusions for prior conditions, chronic conditions, and old age. And, they get to vote to exclude themselves from the exclusions. I can't wait until the next time I get to vote on who gets to be in Congress!
This is not a threat, it is a promise.

Where the buck stops...
The people who contributed to your campaign have received cushy appointments in your administration. They paid to play.
Be careful. You have given them the reins to our future, but you will be the one we, the people, will hold accountable. The majority of us want universal healthcare with no tricky exclusions, a safe and healthy environment to thrive in, and a world free of wars fought for profit.
You are where the buck stops.

All simply frills....
Our beautiful home is at risk and there are still people who deny that human consumption is the cause of that risk. We are the worst invasive species to ever inhabit our little blue orb. We have become accustomed to our lives of luxury and we are not even aware that enough food and water are a precious luxury. All else are simply frills.... and we do not even know it and we refuse to give anything up to benefit our precious home.

Some good news...
It looks like I am going to continue this project. There is so much to say and so little time to say it before we tumble into pure capitalism.
The good news? Today's paper listed all the medical industries that are standing in support of the Affordable Care Act. They argue for the good health outcomes of having people insured. I call that wonderful and hope they stay the course to improve the ACA.
Cheers!

Making a difference...
Happy May Day! As I write this, the original 100 postcards I sent are again in my mail box with today's card. All 100 postcards were signed by many others and will be processed through the USPS in the next day or so, arriving "en masse". Thanks to all who signed. I have a tingle in my spine from your enthusiasm and your names on the cards. It is that tingle that gives me hope that we can make a difference.
Thank you to all of you that have liked and shared and signed my postcards. The saga is not ended, but we bring a positive energy to bear on the process. We can and will make a difference. Blessings!
