Freedom of speech defines us...

In thinking about this postcard, I might have to take a step backward. Freedom of speech is a defining example of our democracy. Nothing trumps (sorry, I couldn't resist) the right to free speech. But, the less free press we give people who espouse hatred and bigotry, the quieter their voices will become. They may not go away, but they will not get rewarded with headlines.

We would not allow this here!

I am struggling with the idea of "globalism" as a corporate invasion supported by our military. How did this happen? I support using our military people for defense. I cannot support using our military personnel to buffer corporations and to bolster their profiteering in other countries. We would never allow this in our country.

Wasting our tax dollars on a grudge....

Yahoo! I cannot say I am sorry that the "Repeal and Replace" of ObamaCare has gone down in flames! Instead of fixing the problems in the system to make it more affordable and equitable, the Republicans have wasted time and money on a grudge with Obama. If Republicans had fixed this from the beginning, there would have been more than enough money to make it work. Quit wasting our tax dollars.

At my expense?

Using our military to "open" markets for U.S. corporations in countries that would prefer not to have us is, at best, creating war for corporate benefit. How do we justify having this as a line item in our governmental budget, at my expense?

$7 billion of tax revenue spent on globalism...

I am still stunned by the very idea that we use our military to open and support markets in countries that probably do not want anything American in their domains. It is called globalism and it is how we are going to spend $7 billion of our tax dollars. That and creating a war with North Korea.

A simple question, an obvious answer....

It is a simple question: Does President Trump stand with American citizens or with corporate CEOs and their profits? The answer is so obvious that it is hard to believe anyone thinks he is advocating for us.

This is not leadership...

Working across the aisle, democrats and republicans, is how this country is supposed to work. But, when an agreement is made and immediately reneged, we all feel cheated. This is not called leadership.

Cheers to Bernie!

Cheers to Bernie! Having a single payer health insurance plan to cover every American has been a dream of mine for years. They have single payer throughout Europe and in Canada and their health outcomes and longevity statistics are far better than those in the United States. Stand up and be counted. Making a profit off our illness and injuries is not in our best interest.

Wish for an ounce of hope...

I know there has been a culture of money and corruption in our government for years. And, I know that those who voted for Trump and those who didn't were hoping for a change. I just wish there was an ounce of hope that it would happen.

Let DACA stand...

800,000 hard working young people who love this country. And, you threaten to expel them from our country if you don't get your wall!

How can it hurt?

And really, what harm could possibly come if we, all the people in all the countries, work to make the world a better and safer place. The only ones we have to get on board are the those who benefit from desecrating our planet.

Hold on to the dream!

It seems that I sent congratulations too soon. It seems that there those who are offended by working across the aisle and their voices may cause a backlash. We need to keep our voices clear and certain. Hold on to the dream!

Just an overgrown 1st grader...

Getting into a verbal war with a bully is a losing battle. So far, it has not worked with Kim Jong Un, and my prediction is that it won't ever work. He is getting what he wants: public recognition, front page news, and his picture emblazoned everywhere. Why would he stop doing what he is doing. Ignore him publically and quietly give him the ultimatums. It always worked with 1st graders and Kim is just a 1st grader in adult clothing.

How will we choose?

We have a chance to make a difference. Either we take that chance or we don't. Those who follow us will judge us by how we choose.

Where is our moral authority?

Threats thrown will not bring anyone to the bargaining table. And, how can we, who have nuclear bombs and are the only country in the world that has used them, have any moral authority to demand that other countries cannot have their own nuclear arsenal?

Harboring huddled masses...

We militarize our police and go after the ones who harvest our food, work in our yards, grow up here and want to improve their lives through education and work. We have criminalized those whom our founders invited in. How did we get to this place?

Who benefits?

We can only quess at the answer of who benefits. But, the first one is certainly the health insurance industry which does not want to be required to pay for those pesky pre-existing conditions with their sky high premiums. The second is more difficult. It could be the institutions that don't want to lose students; or the loan industry, or it could be the white, male, chauvinist pigs running around Washington, DC looking for.... oh, me, shut my mouth.

Collaboration...

Collaboration is what will bring civility back to our country and its political process. As I tell my grandkids, "The most miserable people in the world are those who think they always get their way." It is time for cooperation and respect across the aisle in our Congress and on our streets. It is not that difficult.

Bring back the middle class....

The way I heard it explained was, if you increase the wealth of the wealthy, there are only so many houses, couches, swimming pools, cars, trips, and college degrees they will purchase. However, if you increase the wealth of a viable middle class the number of those commodities will sky rocket. That's how jobs will actually return to the United States. Bring back the middle class.

Holding DACA hostage....

A majority of these young people paid nearly $500 to become a Dreamer. They have gone to school, gotten jobs, and created lives filled with hope. They are productive members of their communities. Our president has put their lives on the line to get a wall built.

I sincerely hope these environmental disaster relief efforts do not end with privatization of public services as happened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I have my fingers crossed for the people in the western U.S., Houston, and Florida.

Stand for what is right....

It is comforting to know that religious leaders are urging acceptance of the science of climate change. If you need more evidence, look at our country. Houston has horrific flooding, the west is on fire, and Florida is in the path of record breaking 185 mph winds. The time is long past for climate deniers. Listen to world leaders who are working to mitigate the worst effects of what we have done to our home. Stand for what is right and Americans will stand for you.

Stand for the people...

It is the people who have made this country great. Those who think that sending our jobs overseas and giving mega-profits to the few do not have the best interests of our country at heart. We must stand for people or we will all go down.

Patriotism means standing up for your country and the people in it. Joseph Arpaio's years of being a sheriff should not be held as a model for American patriotism.

How to really make America great again...

To "make America great again" all we have to do is look to our constitution, "of the people, for the people, by the people", and the golden rule, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Pardoning a man who has shown no interest in our constitution or the people he was serving shows that our president has no interest in them either.
