Is there really any difference? I would bet that not a single American would tolerate interference in our government, yet we ("we", used loosely) condone interference in governments around the world. If one is wrong, all are wrong.

We seem to have lost the feeling of being a united nation. I plan to send a postcard each day to our new President sharing what drives me through my days, what I want for this country, and what I want our nation to stand for. You are free to comment. I hope you will comment with generosity and civility. Please respect the intent of this effort. Thank you, Dianne

We sound hypocritical...
We don't get to write the rules for everyone. But we should be darn sure that what we demand from other countries, we demand for ourselves. Our influence around the world has lead to wars, seating greedy dictators, making countries unsafe for the people, and privatizing public services. We sound hypocritical to demand that Russia keep their nose out of our elections.

Breathe in peace, breathe out love...
This kind of behavior is happening all over our country. It is easy to get caught up defending oneself or even retaliating in kind. It takes a calm person who deeply knows what kind of world she want to live in to turn away, unaffected by vicious hatred. Breathe in peace, breathe out love.

Capitalism, designed for the wealthy...
The capitalistic government, governing only for profit, is frightening. While I know our founders were wealthy, white men, they created a government that has allowed us to evolve into a democracy that works for the benefit of the people. It will be a sad day when benefit is only for the rich.

Honest, civil conversations...
I know, it seems like an unlikely thing to write to our current president. But, I write about the world as I wish to see it, and that means having honest, civil conversations with people with whom we disagree. I am always open to that possibility.

This is a bit more in-your-face than most of my postcards. But, my concerns for our country and it's people is getting more and more ramped up the more I learn about what is going on.

The Big Distraction...
And this was only two days ago. Today in the paper he is again saying that Russian meddling is a "hoax". This is a distraction. We must keep our heads from spinning so we can focus on what is really going on in Washington.

The best case scenario...?
Speculation often leads to assumptions and worst case scenarios. However, in this case, even the best case scenario is terrible: A self professed, millionaire, tycoon who has sold his soul to the highest bidder is running our country.

This pardon was unjust!
The very heart of what we consider right and wrong is being compromised when pardons like this one are given. When this happens, the rest of us will be treated like criminals for the color of our skin, for where we came from, for protesting this sort of unjust behavior of our president, or even for writing postcards like this one.

Is it just a performance?
I use the word "prepared" very loosely in this postcard. More and more it seems that our president opens his mouth but doesn't really know what he is talking about. Never a fan, I am becoming more and more uncomfortable with his "performance".

A year and a half of postcards!
Knowing that big money is running (and ruining our country) makes me feel hopeless, but I will not live without hope! So, I write postcards.

Military spending is a money making deal...
We are the biggest arms dealer in the world. Could that be the reason we are pressuring other countries to increase their military spending, so our arms dealers can make more money! I do not believe all this money spent on guns and bombs makes us any safer.

Receiving needed healthcare for oneself or one's children should never result in bankruptcy. Health care is a right that should be applied uniformly to everyone.

Pardons should reflect justice, not cronyism...
Pardons should reflect the application of justice in our country. They should not be applied to the president's cronies who have been found guilty.

Mr. Trump isn't calling the shots!
This pay-to-play game is taking away the voice of the people. Decisions that should be ours are made by secretive donors whose only interest is in making money. So, who is calling the shots? It certainly isn't our Mr. Trump!

We want a president who stands for the people...
I believe that most Americans want a president who has their best interests at heart. To say one is working for the people and, time after time, does only what puts money into the pockets of the wealthy is hypocritical. I hope Americans can see what is happening and go to the polls with their eyes wide open.

I carry this grudge...
I am not usually a grudge holder, but the way President Obama was stripped of his ability to do his job still rankles my mind and my heart. I wouldn't begrudge Trump his right to name a Supreme Court Justice if the law had been followed during Obama's term.

What "of the people, for the people, by the people" means...
Throughout my lifetime, there have been times when our government made decisions that were not in the best interests of the people. We the people would rise up, either in the streets or in the courts, to make things right. As we did in my school, we must rise up and demand that our government is just, equitable, and compassionate. That is what "...of the people, for the people, and by the people" means.

Our two party system...
For sometime, I have been coming to worry that our two party system is a danger to our democracy. I am not all together sure Republicans are very different from Democrats. Yes, one is conservative and one is liberal, but are they really, structurally, different?

We must all pull together...
It is amazing how many people in our country, on both sides of the aisle, feel as John Frohnmayer feels. We have gone from believing we were the best country on Earth to feeling like we, as a country, have lost our moral high ground. We must pull together, all together, to reclaim our country.
