Do we stand for justice, ... or not?

This postcard needs no more comment. Either we work for justice or we don't. We each must decide.

The wealthy will get the benefit...

The tax bill that Trump is proposing will benefit 1% or 2% of the population and gut benefits for the poor. Ask anyone, would they prefer to be poor or to work? I would bet that the majority of those would give anything to earn their support. Many have children they need to stay home and take care of, or have health issues that keep them from working, or have mental health issues that need addressing, but the rest would give anything to be able to take care of themselves and their families. Instead, the wealthy will get the benefit.

My commitment to my grandchildren.

My gift to my grandchildren is my commitment to their world and their lives. I do not buy presents for them unless they are locally made and/or sold, generally no plastic, no electronics. I will make donations to organizations they want to support in their names. I will give them adventures and art supplies. Mostly, my gift is to stop supporting corporations who do not consider their best interests.

Breathe in.... and breathe out....

This meditation was given to me by a friend. Breathe in.... and breathe out.... and breathe in.... and breathe out....

Stop being jerks!

I'm not letting Al Franken off the hook. Of all the men who have been accused, he seems to be the only one who fessed up and said he was sorry. Still, he was being a jerk and he should have known better.

My Climate Change "Playbook"

We cannot wait for the government to do this work for us. Everyday we must do whatever we can to help stop the warming of our planet. And, we must be ready to radically change every aspect of how we live. Make your own "playbook" and stick to it.

Stand up for our children's children!

These stories have been around since I was a child. Yet, they contradict everything I believe the American people want for themselves and their children. How have we come to value money more than our children and their education, their well-being and health, their Planet Earth? None of us, democrats or republicans want our Earthen Home to be ravaged by the wealthy 1%. Stand up, rise up, and be counted for our children and their children. Now! Tomorrow will be too late!

There is no more later...

I truly believe that we have no more important work to do than banding together as human beings and saving our planet for our children and their children. Greed and fear are stopping us, but in union we can overcome both. Now is the time, there is no more later.

Who thinks this is okay?

I just read today that, in addition to overturning the ban on hunting elephants, the ban against hunting lions was quietly overturned under Trump's watch a month ago. Does anyone except rich white men think this is okay? (Sorry, maybe I am a racist!)

An oil industry scam...

How did our government lose its focus on "of the people, for the people, by the people"? Creating a process for states to approve or disapprove of oil pipelines, but disallowing them to take into account the safety of those pipelines is an oil industry scam. It is designed to make us feel like we have some control, but really, we have none.

How are you ahead?

The people who gave Trump the Presidency were not the moneyed voters. Yes, they paid for his campaign, but it was his voters that were calling out to be heard in a system that is addicted to easy money. Those voters heard Trump say he would be on their side. All the arguments for this devastating tax cut are targeting those same people. However, those who understand the financial ways of things are saying something different. The financial burden will be on the poor and the middle class. If I give you $10 and charge you $20, how are you ahead?

No sympathy for Roy Moore...

The time has come for women to stand up for themselves and tell their stories. It is unfortunate that it has taken so long for the women who were exploited by Roy Moore to come forward. That alone tells us how devastating sexual abuse can be. I have no sympathy for Mr. Moore and hope the voters feel the same.

Keep your mouth shut and your hands to yourself!

It is all about 'power over'. The men, or women, who wield power over others by trivializing them need to be called out and stopped. As I always told my sons, "Don't do anything you do not want on the front page of the newspaper." If you keep your mouth shut and your hands to yourself, there will be no surprises. Sounds easy to me.

A threat to all beings...

Unequivocally, the nuclear bomb is the worst invention ever. Its power to destroy human life makes it a threat to all beings on the planet. Unless we are actually willing to use it, why do we have it?

I see no net benefit to me.

This $6,000 windfall will come to me if the Republican tax bill passes. Would that make a difference for me? Of course it would. But, putting that into my pocket is not what I want done with my money. I would rather it was spent on schools, the environment, justice for all people, and healthcare for all. Unfortunately, because of the huge deficit that will come from this windfall, costs for everything important will go up and I see no net benefit to me.

There is no more "later"....

In 1992, 1500 scientists put their signatures on a document titled, "World Scientists' Warning to Humanity". Now, 25 years later, 15,000 have signed the updated version of that document, saying "time is running out". There is no more "later" to begin the work of rescuing our planet. Now is the time!

Trickle up economics...

Robert Reich puts it another way. He says that "trickle up" is a much more reliable model for our economy. Bringing back the middle class will trickle both up and down. The rich will get richer because we can buy more and the poor will have jobs supplying goods to the middle class. I know no one who believes there is anyone who will benefit from the rich getting richer.

Vigilante justice...

This was a hard postcard to write. The armed citizen in Sutherland Springs probably kept the death toll from rising. Again, they were heroes. But, I do not want to live in a world where ordinary citizens take the law into their own hands with bullets. Vigilante justice is terrifying and riddled with un-intentioned consequences!

Rein in the NRA...

Does logical gun legislation work? The evidence in this chart is very compelling. The NRA is only interested in selling guns.

Our resilient forests...

A resilient forest does not mean clear cutting, mining, fracking, or oil extracting. The word resilient is a positive term to describe a state of health, flexibility, and suppleness with the struggles of day to day life. Resilience does not mean trashing our planet for personal gain and hoping it will recover.

A mistake away from destruction...

Nuclear weapons have never been a good idea. And yet, we have a stockpile stashed around the world. We have no moral high ground to claim any other country should not have their own stockpile. We are all just a mistake away from destruction.

Purchased legislation...

What more can be said? The majority of Americans want sensible gun legislation to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, abusers, and those with mental health issues. The NRA wants no such thing and contributes big bucks to campaigns to make sure that never happens. We need to stand up to this system of purchased legislation.

What side are you on?

There is a saying, "You can be on the safe side or the sui-side." All of our choices have consequences. We can decide to do the the best for us all or we can decide to do what is best for "me". There is no doubt what "side" Trump and his appointees and backers are choosing.

A crazy notion...

This argument is just plain stupid. We have increased the annual average temperature on Planet Earth by 1.8ยบ since 1900, by burning fossil fuels. My understanding is that the tipping point of no return is little more than 2 degrees. We have to stop making stupid excuses now!

The right to religious freedom...

I support everyone's right to religious freedom, the right to choose one's own spiritual path. I worry though, that Mr. Brownback will focus on protecting and promoting only on the religious beliefs that match his own. I sincerely hope I am wrong. I can completely support defending each person's right to pursue religious beliefs of their own choosing, not Mr. Brownback's choosing.

Just imagine our country without our beautiful protected lands and open spaces. The effort to lift those protections for the purpose of exploitation for profits, is underway. We must all become activists or we will see our lands raped and pillaged. Stand up and be counted!

We must protect our precious lands!

America's most precious asset is our system of National Parks and protected lands. People from all over the world come to see some of our Earth's most stunning places. Families across our land visit our public lands for respite from the hubbub of our lives. These lands are our lands, not to be harvested, fracked, or mined for the benefit of the few. We must stand and protect our precious lands. They cannot be replaced.

The Point of No Return....

I know North Korea has not been in the news in the past couple of days. But, the problem is still there even though it has been tucked in behind other headlines and tweets. Just think what one A-bomb would do to our planet and even threats become intolerable. Just one A-bomb could send us over the tipping point on which we are currently balancing. Think of it as the Point of No Return.
