Every culture and every religion has the same teachings. Love your neighbor as yourself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is not even difficult. Treat everyone with respect and kindness. The difficulty seems to stem from the word 'everyone'.

We seem to have lost the feeling of being a united nation. I plan to send a postcard each day to our new President sharing what drives me through my days, what I want for this country, and what I want our nation to stand for. You are free to comment. I hope you will comment with generosity and civility. Please respect the intent of this effort. Thank you, Dianne

If not love....
We certainly aren't here for money, power, or status. We are here to enjoy our lives, protect our habitat, and love each other. What a waste of a life if it is not driven by love.

Just sayin'...
Can it be that we are afraid of anyone who "becomes" equal to us pink people... because they might just treat us as we have treated them for 250 years? Just sayin'.

Who are the bad guys?
Who are the bad guys? The two black men sitting at a table? The employee who called the police? Or, how about the police who arrested two black men sitting at a table?

Doesn't Donald want to know what we think?
I still tell myself that someone reads my postcards. I can't believe they just end up in the trash. Wouldn't a president want to know what the people are thinking?

How is this a good idea?
This is a vivid illustration of how our national military industrial complex is taking tax dollars that we want spent on improving the lives of American families. Why would anyone think this is a good idea? Oh, right, to put a lot of money into a few pockets.

Perhaps, a new trend....
I have hope that this will be the new trend. All we want is reasonable gun legislation.

Why haven't we noticed our democracy disappearing?
How have we come to the point where our democracy is in mortal danger? One man, a reality show host has his finger on the future of our democracy. Have we spent so much time being entertained and shopping, that we don't even notice that our rights and well being are being threatened?

Voter restoration... the right thing to do.
Voter restoration for felons who did not commit violent crimes has support 67% of the voters in the conservative state of Florida. It is the right thing to do.

For profit prisons...
Once our prison system became a private operation, more prisoners were needed to make the business lucrative. The statistics are horrific. Make our prisons a place for growth and learning instead of punishment and recidivism will plummet. But that would make our for profit prisons not very profitable.

Democracy undermined by big money...
Our "democracy undermined by big money"! Is this the world we want for the American people... or our children. How could we have come to this?

We have no moral high ground...
Bombing is the last solution, not the first. Worse, we have no moral high ground since we have our own stockpile of chemical weapons we have not yet destroyed as was called for in the Chemical Weapons Convention which we signed in May of 1991.

Justice is worth it...
We all know that the high cost of justice is hard work, chaos, confrontation, and danger. We all know this, but justice is worth it.

There are no exceptions to truth...
Wherever truth comes from, there are no exceptions. Truth never says, "Well, maybe..." or "Not this time," or "My truth does not apply to you." There are no exceptions to truth.

Our best selves....
Nurturing our best selves is our highest calling. Responding with violence only escalates violence. Our best selves can do better.

Kind hearts and gentle souls...
Does our religion tell us what to believe or does it show us how to treat the people around us? Any religion will help us nurture kind hearts and gentle souls.

There is no safety in fear and violence...
We live in a culture that consumes violence through news and entertainment. Many respond with fear and think guns will protect them and are surprised when the guns on turned on us. There is no safety in a fear and violence driven culture.

Privatization will only benefit the wealthy...
As I understand it, privatization will make us all poor and the wealthy wealthier. Wages, regulations, and safety nets will go down for all of us. We have seen how poorly that has worked in our interference in South America, Indonesia, Poland, and the Middle East.

Military armaments for corporate profit...
As I have said many times, I am not against guns and do not want all guns confiscated and banned. I do take serious issue with an industry that has made military armaments available to domestic purchasers and do not take responsibility for culture of violence that has been created in our country for their profit.

Helping others is what makes us human and defines our humanity. It feels like we are losing our connection to each other in a world of consumerism and greed.

A lesson from 2000 years ago...
2000 years ago, people's lives were being manipulated by the moneyed class and Jesus made it clear in this story that it was not to be sanctioned. And, here we are 2000 years later, still being manipulated by the moneyed class. Are we going to let this continue?

Do unto others....
It seems so easy. So why isn't it working? Every religion calls on followers to do unto others what you would expect to be done to you. It is possible this is the most important thing we can learn and follow in our lives. Give it a try.
