We seem to have lost the feeling of being a united nation. I plan to send a postcard each day to our new President sharing what drives me through my days, what I want for this country, and what I want our nation to stand for. You are free to comment. I hope you will comment with generosity and civility. Please respect the intent of this effort. Thank you, Dianne

Before long we can be billions!
Someone needs to step up and lead this charge. Each and every day we create more green-house gases, more pollutants, more poverty, more trash, more people. If our leadership won't lead us, we have to take the helm ourselves. We can do this! 1+1=2 and 2+2=4 and 4+4=8, and before long we can be billions!

There has to be a better way...
This is my broken record... Not all, but many of our very wealthy do not want to spend their money on repairing the damage that has been done to our planet. So what is to be done? Without their leadership and money, we just let climate change wreak its havoc and devastate life on our planet? There has to be a better way.

Has war made the world a safer place?
I am always amazed that our collective human nature includes sending members of our society out to kill members of another society. A few of "them" kill 3,000 of us, so we retaliate by killing 1,000,000 of them. Did that retaliation make the world a safer place?

Plus, Iraqi and Afghani lives lost in the 15 years of war is approaching 1,000,000. How can anyone think these wars have been a good idea for anyone except the arms industry?

Be clear about who you really are...
Taking things personally, both positive and negative things personally, makes you dependent on other people to know who you are. Be clear about who you are and what other people think or say about you no longer matters.

"Self Importance"....
"Self importance", is telling myself that I am more important than everyone else. It says that my wants and needs are more important than yours. It is a dangerous and selfish place to come from when dealing with other people, especially when it comes from our president.

Keep a skeptical mind...
Interesting quotes from nearly 250 years ago. Another thing I read a few years back said that the most well informed voters get their information from newspapers. So, I tend to think that is the best place, ... as long as we keep a skeptical mind.

Believe only half of what you see...
All news, especially news dished out during an election season, should be consumed with a bit of bitter tea. We must check things out before we denounce or repeat what we hear. I like what my dad always said: Believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Who would be most satisfied?
Here's an idea: Those of us who are living on our social security pensions can decide if we want our funds managed by a private investment firm and can pay the firm to manage our funds. Those of us who want our funds managed by the Social Security Administration can stay put. I wonder who would be the most satisfied?

Look up JPay...
JPay is just another way for private corporations to make money on the incarceration of American citizens. In order to continue making more and more money, more and more Americans must to be incarcerated. Many who are in our for-profit prisons are there because of petty crimes, because they are addicted and would do better in treatment, or because they have mental health issues that also need treatment. JPay has created a system to make money off them. Look them up: https://www.jpay.com/ They make it sound so caring.

Are you unaware of your "white privilege"?
It is hard to imagine that any informed white person could think they have been discriminated against, blaming it on those who truly have been treated as second class citizens. These are people who have benefited from white privilege and are completely unaware of the benefit.

Money has rewarded greed...
Why have our standards for presidential behavior been brought down to such a low level? I think it a result of legislation, Citizens United to be precise, that rewards greed. The candidate that sells his or her soul, can no longer discriminate right from wrong.

Using our Census to benefit white Americans...
It is being suggested that we modify our precious, constitutional census to include a question about citizenship. This is not what our ancestors wanted. It is simply a threat to benefit only white Americans, who were all immigrants at one time.
Socialism or capitalism...
Let's see, Socialism means using tax dollars for the benefit of everyone and Democratic Capitalism means channeling more money to the wealthy, reducing taxes so we are unable to sustain quality schools, equitable health care, affordable health care, and higher education without debt accumulation. I think I would go for the political system that benefits the most.

We had a chance and wasted it...
In order to protect the industries that pollute our planet and harm our citizens, our governmental systems were paid off. As a result of this cronyism, the horrific effects of climate change are knocking at our doors. Floods, fires, droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, sea rise, species in crisis, immigration from areas that no longer sustain life, wars, and global terrorism are our rewards for ignoring the warnings while we still had a chance to make a difference.

Americans do not want health care for profit...
I can somewhat agree that the Affordable Care Act is not the best possible solution for Americans who need health care. However, the ACA was crafted when Republicans refused to participate in any legislation proposed by Democrats. This administration is hell-bent on turning our health care system into a for profit system with reduced benefits to cover the cost of those profits. If the president had any care for common Americans he would stand up for Medicare For All. It is already in place and works wonderfully to take care of its participants.

We must act to save our Earth...
Our president just accused California of letting their water "just flow into the ocean". Over a thousand people have lost their homes in California because of wildfires encroaching on cities. This is not just a California problem. Throughout our country and the world, events are happening that are warning us all about how we have damaged the climate of our home. We have had nearly 50 years of warning and not much has happened to reverse this ecological disaster. We need to work together, support each other, and treat our home with justice and compassion.

The census is to count population, not citizenship...
The main question is, "Why do we do a census every ten years? The founding Fathers thought this data, called the census, was so important they mandated it as part of the Constitution. The census is designed to ensure that each community gets the right number of representatives in government. In addition, since the census helps with the equitable distribution of public funds such as federal and state funding for things like educational programs, healthcare, law enforcement and highways, allocation is in part based on population. This distribution of billions of dollars of public money requires accurate, up-to-date population data. There is no mention of citizenship. Voting is based on citizenship which is proved with valid ID.
