It is a start....

Anything that is proposed to improve gun safety in the U.S. will be a step in the right direction. Raising the age to purchase a gun is a start, but that alone will change nothing.

My voice is important, and will be heard...

Democrats are no less of the problem than republicans. Both sides of the aisle take money in trade for influence, leaving the voices of the people unheard. I will no longer blindly support the democratic party. I will, instead, look at where a candidate's money trail leads. My voice is as important as the Koch Bros. and the NRA.

Gun money will not get my votes!

I am so proud of these young people. They are determined to make this the last school shooting and they are standing up to Governors, legislators, and the President of the United States. These are the people who take massive amounts of money from the NRA to keep assault weapons, bump stocks, and silencers available to absolutely anyone, no limits. I will no longer vote for anyone who takes money from the gun industry. It is the least I can do for these young people.

Politics is our right...

Politics is our right as voters in a democracy. Our voices must count as much as the dollars the NRA and the Koch brothers spend to buy loyalty. If we do not count, we have lost our democracy.

Thoughts and prayers are meaningless...

This is the back story. The donors do not want the mass killings to cause regulation of their products, assault rifles, bump stocks, and silencers. Their "thoughts and prayers" are meaningless and leave us waiting for the next mass murder.

The killing of our children IS political...

These typical responses to the killing of our children are inadequate. Yes, we should come together and divisiveness is not healing. However, the NRA has made this a political issue by the massive amounts of money they donate to buy the silence of our politicians. That makes the killing of our children political.

For our children!

I do not want to take people's guns away. I just want to make sure assault weapons, bumpstocks, and silencers are regulated and kept out of the hands of ordinary citizens. I want this for our children and the thousands of people who are needlessly killed every year.

Choose your steps....

Sometimes a problem seems so big, so massive that we cannot even fathom how to even face it, or even acknowledge it. But, if each of us takes one step, or two, or five, or ten, what a difference we would make. Climate change will consume us if we don't act. Choose your steps and make a difference.

We must stand strong....

We must not let this pillage happen. We must stand strong and protect our planet from exploitation and greed. Our natural world and all its beauty is our legacy to our children.

Hold our President accountable...

It creeps me out that young boys are being raised with such a sense of entitlement that our daughters and granddaughters are still at risk for abuse and harassment. Our President, of all people, should be standing up for their right to grow up safe and with equal opportunity. Our President should be held accountable.

What fake news looks like...

All of the name calling, denials, smoke screens, and hyperbole make it difficult to believe anything. Hence, it is working to keep people uninformed and scattered. It muddies the waters and is exhausting.

American voters are watching....

I think innocent until proven guilty is what makes our democracy strong. But the culture of abuse has escaped any call for justice for far too long. To cover up for these men is equal to the abuse itself. We will no longer tolerate it. American voters are watching and will make their opinions known.

We have found our voices...

I hope that any man who has taken advantage of young girls, women, or wives is living in terror that someone is going to tell on him. There no longer will be silence. We have found our voices and will use them.

It doesn't take a genius...

Seems to me that if each of us, men and women, treated each other the way we want to be treated, we wouldn't have the problem we are seeing with abuse. I can't imagine a man wanting to be treated like women are treated. It doesn't take a genius to figure this one out.

This needs to stop!

Jeff Kruse's public response should give us a clue to why groping is so prevalent. There are rich, white, men out there who have no idea they are doing anything wrong and just cannot imagine life without being "handy" with women. It show the world they have all the power. This needs to stop!

Not what I envision for my grandchildren...

There are wars going on all over the globe. What we need is a steady hand on the tiller and a voice that calls for peaceful solutions. Instead we have a president that has just dropped us into deficit mode and wants to spend millions in tax $$$ on a parade that promotes our war machine. This is not the world I envision for my grandchildren.

Social Security is OUR money!

Just today, on NPR, a spokesman for the Koch Brothers' Empire was suggesting that Social Security was part of our deficit problem and seemed to be suggesting we need to do away with it. Politicians "borrowed" our money and there is no hint that it is going to be paid back. As I see it, they need to pay the money back and then we will talk about how to make the program work for Amerians.

How does this make us great again?

Of all the quotes I read this week, this one seems closest to how I feel. I know there is nothing resembling non-partisanship in our legislative system, but to carry partisanship into our security arena, jeopardizes that security as well as our standing as a country the world can depend on. I cannot see how this could possibly "make us great great again."

Walk the path of justice...

Today I said the Pledge of Allegiance, replacing "liberty and justice..." with "liberty and community for all." It was amazing. It felt truer, more representative to what we all want for our country. The higher calling for community felt personal to me. "Justice" feels like I am relying on the courts to make justice happen. "Community" calls me to walk the path of justice myself.

Protect our voting rights....

Our voting system is a precious piece in the puzzle of our democracy. Citizens have the right to vote and help create the picture of our country. Putting arbitrary and frivolous restrictions and limits on who can vote is a first step to return us to the days when only white, wealthy men were allowed to vote. We've come too far to let this happen.

Nuclear threats, a crime against humanity...

Nuclear threats should be considered a crime against humanity and prosecuted. It is not like we don't know what will happen if we follow through with our threats. We have more than enough war power to deter any attack to us without the use of or threat to use nuclear bombs.

Gratitude and blessings...

I must say, I use my smart phone for all kinds of tasks. Texting, sharing photos, looking up answers, and and keeping track of appointments make my life much less cluttered. But, the face-to-face time with friends and family are the highlights of my days. You are my happiness, my anticipation, and surely my survival. I would not be who I am without you. I won't wait and see...

There are those who live in comfort who are hoping the science is wrong or that the problem will get fixed before we have to make personal changes. To those I say, the evidence is compelling, but it could possibly be wrong. We can do nothing and hope it turns out right or we can choose to make changes that can help before it is too late. I won't wait and see. For me, the time for action is now.

We are not above the laws of nature.

This is a hidden threat. Look around. Do you see any sea turtles? They are invisible to us, but they are part of our ecosystem just as we are. If just one species fails because of human effect on our environment, we are all at risk. We are not above the laws of nature. We are just another species that will stumble and then fail.

Filling prisons for racist motives?

Along with the "War" on drugs, this is another example of what happens when we focus on filling for-profit prisons instead of on justice. The statistics do not support the headlines and suggest racist motives.

When will we grow up?!

On top of this, Hawaii just had a nuclear false alarm and Oregon State University here in Corvallis, is emphasizing that everyone on campus have knowledge of the emergency preparedness plan in case we have a nuclear attack.
What is the world coming to? You would think we were a bunch of preschoolers throwing sand in each others eyes. When will we grow up?!
