How we want our tax dollars spent...

How do I want my tax dollars spent? I want America to invest in a world where we all feel safe and respected, educated and fed.

Again, this needs no further comment.

This is our culture?

What kind of person would make a video game about shooting up a school and then complain about taking away his freedom of speech? It boggles the mind to think anyone would call this a game. What has happened to our culture?

Public services should be public, not private...

This privatization of pubic services scares me to death. Giving this utility away for profit is not what Puerto Rico needs and will be followed by other giveaways.

Maybe we are friends....

Perhaps we actually are friends. Maybe my efforts to be civil have created a friendship with someone I have never met and rarely agree with. Would that be a way to make the world a better place?

Flint's contaminated water...

Today's paper noted that there is still lead contamination in Flint, Michigan's water. How can this possibly be? We can give tax breaks to the wealthy and roll back industry regulations, but we cannot clean up a community's water supply? How is this justice?

There is no biblical justification for locking up children...

My understanding of the Bible suggests that we are expected to do unto others as we would have them do unto us and to welcome the stranger into our land. Nowhere in the Bible is it okay to lock up the stranger and take away and lock up her children.

"The Prayer of the Children"

These words, written in 1994, are more relevant today than any other time I can remember. If not for our children, for whom will we stand?

Kidnapping children for political gain...

Using children for political advantage is the worst example of greed and aggrandizement I have ever seen. America has lost its moral compass if we do nothing about this crime against humanity.

How did we come to this?

How did we come to be a nation that would elect a government that has little care for the people and the greater good? How do we justify electing a president who acts like a self-serving tyrant with underlings who claim biblical mandates?

We are the "MOTHER OF EXILES"...

Here is Emma Lazarus' poem on the Statue of Liberty in its entirety. It is a heart-felt greeting and commitment for America to be the "MOTHER OF EXILES". It is our heritage.

We must act in good faith...

These words inspired your and my parents and grandparents to seek a safe haven for their families. The people we are criminalizing today are no different than those of us who arrived on our shores seeking sanctuary. We must act in good faith and respect toward our ancestors.

Our crime is worse...

Of all you have chosen to do since you became our president, this is the most disturbing. Taking children away from parents who are trying to find a safe haven for themselves and their families, seems a far worse crime than what we are penalizing them for.

Sanctuary does not protect criminals...

Sanctuary is not given to those who perform criminal acts breaking our laws or harming Americans. Sanctuary is for people who come to us for protection from corrupt and dangerous governments in their countries of origin. We owe them protection. All too often, the U.S. has intervened and destabilized their countries for the benefit of greedy capitalists.

Strength comes in building partners and alliances who stand together. Strength comes when we united for the common good.. I fear for us.

Be careful what you say...

If I heard words such as these from a teacher, a scientist, a doctor, or even a plumber, it would not inspire trust that she has any idea what needs to be done. The same is true for a president.

Priorities have gone wonky...

Just read a big article in the paper about the $$$ that are being spent to upgrade our torture facility, Guantanamo. Priorities and ethics have gone wonky. The focus on incarceration should have us all worried.

We must unite or we will lose...

We are a divided country. We are divided by wealth and poverty and by race. If we are divided, not trusting of each other, we will surely lose our voices. We must unite for the benefit of all of us or all of us will lose.

We will decide our future!

This is not the first postcard I have written about money dominating our government, and it probably won't be the last. We must look for the money trail behind every candidate who asks for our votes. We get to decide if democratic capitalism, benefiting only the wealthy, is how we want our tax dollars spent. We will decide our future by how we vote!

#8 of an 8 postcard series...

How could anyone think that pay-to-play would be a good way to run our government? It scares me to imagine there are those, lurking in the shadows, waiting to rescind all regulations, taxes, and safety nets for the citizens of our country. We must stand up for the America we want for children and grandchildren.

#6 of an 8 postcard series...

We have lost sight of the American Dream. We have lost jobs, but instead of helping the people who are out of work, we blame them for not being productive. We have got to get our priorities in order and stop blaming the victims of corporate greed.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Sounds good! But it has been used to justify bigotry, false news, and giving corporate entities the same rights as a person to participate in election funding. Justice has been corrupted and the People have lost their power!
