In my classroom I witnessed the opposite effect. The more kindness I used in my discipline, the less negative behaviors I needed to discipline. The more I modeled helpfulness, the less the children needed my help, they were being helped by each other. The more even tempered I was, the the more cheerful everyone was. The end result, was more quality work being done, more learning happening, and less reason for me to get upset. I bet it would work in Washington as well.
