Where is the NRA's support for victims?

If I kill someone because I "perceive" they are a threat, NRA insurance will cover all my legal expenses. That would be great if I had to kill someone to stay alive. George Zimmerman, in 2012, was covered when he threatened and then killed an unarmed black teenager. Provided with lawyers and money for fines and fees makes it easier for a shooter to get away with murder. Where is the NRA's support of the 93 people killed with guns each and every day in the United States?

The NRA does not protect the American people

Our taxes fund research into all kinds of public health issues, but not the public health issue of gun violence. The NRA bills itself as an advocate of hunters, but it is a lobby that promotes gun sales and protection of their profits. The NRA will not support any legislation that protects the American people.

Diversity strengthens...

The right to vote is what defines our democracy. Taking away those rights weakens our democracy. And, as science has shown, diversity strengthens rather than weakens.

Joy while waging war?

I am sure that any of our military personnel who have the barest hint that they are waging war to promote American corporations are not experiencing the joy expressed by Chief of Staff Kelly. And, actually, how could anyone feel joy while waging war? Pride... maybe, comaraderie... yes, but not joy. If it were so, why did Donald Trump not serve?

Give people a chance...

If you pay your fine or do your time, when you walk out the door you are a citizen. It is a second chance. If the door to active citizenship is closed because of massive debt applied by the state, you continue to be incarcerated. Let's open the door and give people a chance.

A cautionary tale...

I know this is a trivial jab at Sam Brownback, former governor of Kansas, and the Trump administration for advocating lower taxes and massive budget cuts. But, if you do the research, Brownback's tax and budget cuts did not benefit Kansasans. It did benefit the wealthy and he was voted out of office. This should be a cautionary tale for President Trump.

Taxes are the price we pay...

I am not sure I am advocating higher taxes. However, the worst-case-scenario is lowering taxes and turning over public and citizen services to corporations that will just charge us more to cover their profits. I would much rather pay higher taxes and know that they would be used to benefit me. Isn't that the point?

This is not "The Apprentice"

It is true, contacting grieving families must be the hardest thing a Commander in Chief has to do, but it is part of the job. Grace and empathy are also part of the job. This is not "The Apprentice".

"Call them out!"

What more can I say? Many wealthy tycoons see sexual "favors" as part of the perks due to them. And, they make it clear to women that their careers are in jeopardy if they refuse. I say, "Call them out!"

Trash talking previous Presidents...

I would think that the worst job on the desk of the President would be to contact the families of those soldiers killed in our continuous military involvement around the world. Still, it is a job that should be done. And, in spite of what Trump has said, Obama did this job without trash talking previous Presidents.

Desegregation has positive outcomes...

If the evidence shows that desegregation works to increase educational outcomes in minority students, why have we reverted to segregated schools? Any possible answer to that question gives me the creeps!

Putting 95% of our children at risk...

How can anyone justify taking away health and medical coverage for 95% of our children? If we make it private, for profit coverage, most of those children will have nothing.

Equality and justice for men as well....

It always amazes me that men are allowed to make decisions that effect all women. In what context are women allowed to make decisions that effect all men? Let's keep our sights on equality and justice for all.

Freedom and justice for all, no exceptions.

How have we come to think that "freedom and justice for all" really means not for all? It seems that Jeff Sessions has forgotten that if he chooses to judge others, he himself will be judged.

A first grade understanding...

I am astounded! We are going to deregulate the very industry that has had a monumental negative effect on our climate? That reflects a first grade understanding of the damage that is being done to our planet by burning fossil fuels. Anyone with a 203 IQ would know better.

I'm a broken record!

The goal of the big donors is to influence legislation to make more money. By reducing taxes our government will not have enough money to pay for services. Those services will be privatized to for-profit corporations and the cost to us will go up to pay for the profits. I know! I sound like a broken record.

Is it a machine gun?

We have laws limiting the purchase of machine guns. Is a semi-automatic gun not a machine gun? Is a semi-automatic gun with a bump stock, not a machine gun? Is a fully automatic gun not a machine gun? I love shooting guns, but I know a machine gun when I see one. It is all a bunch of literary manipulations with no concern for anything but their profits.

Who is in charge? The NRA or the citizens of this country?

It is premature to talk about gun control? Really? The NRA gun lobby will use the word "premature" until the end of time. Are we going to stand by and let America become what the NRA wants or what we want?

Profits or safety?

Who is in charge here? Poll after poll shows that the majority of law abiding citizens in our country want more regulation of guns. Only the NRA wants unregulated guns sales to maintain their profits. We are being sold out so the arms industry can arm every person in the world. It is only about money.

Who needs an assault rifle?

I do not understand how anyone could think that assault rifles should be available to anyone who wants one. It seems to me that anyone who would want an assault rifle tucked away in their closet, would be someone who intends to use it. These weapons need to be licensed and regulated.

It is happening here...

This has been the pattern of the U.S. government and U.S. corporations. They use disaster capitalism, the rapid-fire corporate re-engineering of societies still reeling from shock to transform government services into private, for profit services. Survivors return to their communities to find that hospitals, schools, and utilities are no longer public services. This has happened in South America, Indonesia, Poland, Iraq. It is happening here!

Who wins?

The Personal Income Tax Rate in Sweden stands at 57.10 percent. They have universal healthcare, no homelessness, a great eductional system, and their health outcomes are higher than ours. The Swedes that I have known are thrilled with their system. Yet, in the U.S. everyone wants lower taxes which will deplete our government programs. Then because we have no money, those programs will be privatized. Voilá! Costs will skyrocket to provide profits. Who wins?

Do not ignore us!

We have two threats facing us. One is the changes that are happening to our planetary climate and the other is the refusal of our government to make healthcare a human right deserved by all. The American people are demanding that our voices be heard. Do not ignore us!

Where do you place your trust?

Something has happened in our country. People no longer trust experts in science or economics. People now "believe" politicians whose campaigns are funded by industries which are dependent on misinformation to continue making their profits. Where do you place your trust?
